Now that I got this introductory stuff out of the way, allow me to discuss the actual game. Then, I finally played it and after completing it dozens upon dozens of hours later, I'm both delighted and disappointed. Since then, I intentionally avoided all videos and articles about it because I wanted to experience it from a completely fresh perspective without any sort of bias. So, when Death Stranding was announced at E3 2016, you can imagine my excitement. From their mind-blowing stories to their incredible gameplay, I still can't get enough of them.
DEATH STRANDING METACRITIC SERIES
Every single one of those games blew me away and the Metal Gear franchise stands tall as one of my favourite series ever created. I've been a huge Hideo Kojima fan ever since the original Metal Gear Solid debuted back in the late '90s. Of course, I'd like to think that folks who read my reviews do this anyway but in this particular case, I find that it's far more crucial to do so. As a result, just read what I have to say and make up your own mind. In other words, if I give it a 7 then I'd be underplaying how powerful of an experience Death Stranding is while also overselling how enjoyable it is. v1d30chumz 194-143-137-78Īlso, if you're wondering why I don't merely score it in between my 2 dichotomous minds, I strongly feel that would undermine what I'm trying to say. It's this inherent contradiction that makes Death Stranding a wholly unique and stand-out experience.

Either way, I'd be doing you, the reader, a disservice because Death Stranding is much more than a game yet it's literally a game at the same time. I could score it 10 and say that it's a jaw-dropping experience and I'd be correct and I could also give it 3 and say that it's one of the most frustrating and tedious games that I have ever played. With that in mind, Death Stranding is the only game I've ever played that I can't justifiably say is amazing or disappointing because it's both. In fact, I take pride in the way that I review and score games. Right off the bat, I want to be clear and say that this is the first and probably only time that I won't put a score on one of my game reviews. 🤩 Moments like this are sure to make shivers run down your spine Why no score?Īt the risk of disappointing our visitors, I have decided that assigning a score to Death Stranding is irresponsible for a multitude of reasons. │ Nothing causes more disappointment than hype so at Video Chums, we avoid hyping games prior to playing them for ourselves. It's finally here the game that Hideo Kojima fans have been eagerly awaiting but does it deliver? It at least does in a literal sense. DEATH STRANDING METACRITIC VERIFICATION
The legitimacy of user reviews has often been called into question thanks to the lack of nuance and verification if the user even played the game. Review bombing is traditionally tied to an agenda more than the content of the actual game (users aren’t wasting their time rating games that are actually bad), as users seek to send a message of protest against publishers, developers, and content or practices that they don’t agree with. The practice involves users gathering together to dump negative reviews on games in protest of something, oftentimes without actually playing the game themselves. Review bombing has become a particularly heated topic in the games industry in the past few years.

They have also not adjusted any other games (that we know of) that are victims of suspected review bombs recently. There’s also no real indication as to why they removed those specific ratings compared to the other negative reviews that still remain. The user score, which was at a 5.1 yesterday with 9,355 negative reviews, is today at a 7.4 with only 2,958 negative reviews, as discovered by Reddit user “argande.” While we can assume Metacritic was taking action against “review bombs” that impacted Death Stranding, the aggregate reviews site has not announced anything about the removals or why they felt the need to do it.

Metacritic has removed over 6,000 negative user reviews from Hideo Kojima’s recently released Death Stranding.
